Mike Mottau

AHA Skills Instructor

Mike Mottau, grew up in Avon, Mass, and starred at Thayer Academy a local prep NEPSAC school. Mike then went on to a Boston College career that was highlighted by three trips to the Frozen Four, an All Hockey East Rookie team, All Hockey east first team, AHCA All American, a Walter Brown Award, a Hockey East best defensive defenseman award, a Hockey East player of the year, NCAA All-tournament team, and a Hobey Baker award as the best college hockey player in the country.

Mike then went on and he played in the NHL and AHL over a 14-year professional career.


Mike was named to an AHL all-rookie team and appeared in 3 AHL all-star games. Mike played for the rangers, the flames, the Devils, the Panthers, the Bruins, and the Islanders during his time in the NHL. Mike currently is a scout for the Chicago Blackhawks along with holding down a spot on his own podcast, the Rink Shrinks, with fellow AHA skills director Brian Yandle. As well as a TV host on the New England Hockey Journal TV show.
